Earth Hour, a global event organized by WWF that aims to encourage households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness toward the need to take action on climate change, turned out to be a great success this year. Millions turned off lights and appliances for an hour in a gesture to highlight environmental concerns, while some of the world’s best known landmarks too fell dark at 8:30 p.m. on the March 27. Pictured above is the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with its lights on and the lights turned off as part of Earth Hour. Hit the jump to see some of the famous landmarks during Earth Hour 2010.
